Our kindergarten children are world changers!

In November, some of our kindergarten students went for a walk and noticed a lot of dog poop in the parks beside the school. They wrote a letter to the city of Waterloo. The City responded, and signs have now been posted asking pet owners to pick up after their dogs. The children were very impressed that they were listened to, and that they can have an impact on their world. This is the letter that the class wrote to thank the City for posting the signs:

“Dear City of Waterloo,

Thank you for putting up the dog poo signs so people know to pick up the dog poop so we don’t step in poo. We found 5 dog poo signs near Madagascar and Echoreka and even more near our houses and bus stops. Thank you for picking up the dog poop. We don’t want peoples dogs to do dog poop so you put out the signs so people can talk to their doggies about no dog pooping. We want to play outside and have fun without being stinky. We’re smelling the dog poo and it doesn’t smell good. Thanks for making the signs so we don’t have to litter and make this a bad world.

It makes us feel good that you put the signs up for us. It makes us think about Katie and Orbie (a book we read) because they didn’t clean up their planet and keep it safe and we don’t want that to happen to our planet. It makes us happy that you listened to us because we are 3 and 4 and 5 and 6 years old. People don’t always listen to kids. Some of us want to work for the City of Waterloo when we grow up so that we can listen to kids and the world to be a better place. It was nice for you to listen so everyone would pick up their dog poop. Thank you. The City of Waterloo is so nice. We love you so much!
