September 2026
During this school year, an Occupational Therapist (OT) and Physiotherapist (PT) from KidsAbility Centre for Child Development will be supporting teachers and students in our school.
OTs and PTs are regulated health professionals who support students’ access to the curriculum and participation in school activities.
Occupational Therapists (OTs), supported by Occupational Therapy Assistants (OTAs), may visit classrooms, the gymnasium, or the playground to observe and support teachers. OTs may suggest universal strategies that can be used by all students. These strategies may support self care skills (such as dressing for recess), fine motor development (such as printing, cutting, and pencil grasp), and participation in classroom activities (such as movement breaks to support focus and engagement). Teachers may share these strategies with you to try at home.
Physiotherapists (PTs), supported by Physiotherapy Assistants (PTAs), may also provide strategies to support students’ physical participation at school. This may include ideas related to balance, coordination, and participation in classroom, gymnasium and playground activities.
OT and PT services are provided in collaboration with school teams. Therapists attend schools regularly based on school needs and priorities and connect with school staff throughout the year as needed.
Some students may benefit from more individualized OT or PT support. If this is being considered for your child, the school team will discuss it with you. Parent/guardian consent is required for individual or group intervention. An OT or PT will contact you directly to review the service and obtain consent, if appropriate.
If you have questions or concerns about your child’s participation at school, please speak with your child’s teacher or school team.
Sincerely,
Tatania Stroud, Principal Edna Staebler P. S.
